Solar heat can cover 5% of the demand in 2020
Solar thermal is still considered a sleeping giant with lots of potential. Image: BomathermWien. One study by the Institute for Sustainable Technologies and the Technical University Vienna has seen the potential of solar thermal energy in the context that the final energy demand in Europe for nine years to 20 percent should be met from renewable energy.
Here, the researchers looked at three scenarios. The first is done so on such date, in the second, there are financial incentives and building obligation and in the third, measures of promotion, research and development be fully implemented. Another constraint was the political requirement that decreases through efficiency savings and the total energy consumption by 9 percent over the 2006 level.
In the pessimistic scenario, one would be the share of solar thermal energy will be 2.9 percent, in the most optimistic with 12 percent. To reach that number, enough for the market for solar thermal energy, however, grow each year by 26 percent. Then in 2020 the total area of solar collectors in Europe would amount to 388 million square meters, and there would be 470 000 jobs alone in the internal market in this segment. This would require an investment of 214 billion euros for production, engineering, sales and installation.
For Germany, the experts expect a demand for low-temperature heat of 980 terawatt hours. About two-thirds for the production of hot water and heating heat in private households in the single and in Mehrfamilienbereich. The goal that puts the federal government, a share of 18 percent renewable energy at a reduced energy consumption by ten percent until 2020. In the most optimistic scenario, the Viennese researchers would require an annual growth of solar energy by 21 percent. Then have a solar thermal limit of 5 percent on low heat market and would employ 127 000 people.
2006, in the initial year of the study was 0.3 percent coverage rate, and 15,000 employees. At the moment, enough to produce solar heat in Germany, according to experts, to supply about 200,000 households. 2030 could be the solar coverage rate with reduced heat demand in the optimistic scenarios at 15 percent.
A prerequisite for achieving these goals, however, is a constant market growth. Because it had gehapert in recent years: In good years (with high prices for other energy sources) difficult years followed by stagnation. Also the funding environment is not always easy. are there grants for solar thermal, inter alia, the market incentive program. It was so popular that more money had to be used in the subsequent years in order to satisfy the needs.
